The Snowman/Young Person's Guide to the Woodwind and Percussion concert. Educational and
entertaining family event. The BPO is conducted by Dirk Boiy and the narration is in English by Ian
Forrester QC.
More Information
"The Snowman" bounces back to the Auderghem Cultural Centre with two performances: at 14:30 and
17:30. The music will be performed by the soloists of the Brussels Philharmonic Orchestra under the
direction of conductor, Dirk Boiy, with pianist Mary Gow.
The musical version of "The Snowman" is well known to children and adults. It is based on the
Raymond Briggs story which was set to music by Howard Blake. It tells the story of a boy who builds a
snowman on Christmas Eve. He comes to life and they end up at the North Pole attending the party
with Santa Claus. It is particularly well known for the boy soprano solo "We’re walking in the air".
There is one major change to the programme this year. The first half will be a witty and humorous
version of The Young Person's Guide to the Woodwind and Percussion. It will be full of surprising facts
and musical demonstrations on some of the more unusual instruments that we rarely get a chance to
see up close. The children will be encouraged to participate.
